This recipe makes cooking the iconic Thai Tom Yum soup incredibly simple and flavorful. Using our versatile TAAN THAI Tom Kha Starter, you can easily create a delicious bowl of Tom Yum soup at home. Just add Nam Phrik Phao (Thai roasted chili paste) to turn the creamy richness of Tom Kha into a vibrant, spicy, tangy Tom Yum. Quick, easy, and delicious!


Ingredients

(Serves 2-3)

  • 1 pack of TAAN THAI Tom Kha Starter
  • ½ lb chicken breast or thigh, sliced thinly
  • 1½ tablespoons Nam Phrik Phao (Thai roasted chili paste)
  • 1½ cups water (approx. 350 ml)
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh Thai chilies (optional, sliced, for extra spice)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Soup Base

  • In a medium pot, combine the TAAN THAI Tom Kha Mix with 1½ cups water and bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.

Step 2: Add Chicken

  • Add the thinly sliced chicken to the pot and cook until fully cooked and tender, about 5–7 minutes.

Step 3: Add Nam Phrik Phao

  • Stir in Nam Phrik Phao, mixing well until fully dissolved and incorporated into the soup.
  • Simmer gently for an additional 2–3 minutes.

Step 4: Finish and Adjust Flavor

  • Turn off heat and add fresh lime juice to taste, giving the soup a bright and tangy flavor typical of Tom Yum.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  • Garnish with fresh cilantro and sliced Thai chilies (optional) for extra spice.
  • Serve immediately, ideally with steamed jasmine rice.
