Frequently Asked Questions
TAAN THAI Story
What is unique about TAAN THAI Products?
Our brand’s name, TAAN THAI, derives from Thai words “ทานไทย” which means “tasting Thai.” As the name suggests, we want our products to be, first and foremost, authentically Thai. The concept of authenticity is indeed subjective and what represents Thai food varies. After all, many Thai dishes are products of shared cultures in Asia. What we try to represent, however, is the essence of what it feels like to enjoy Thai food, as if you are trying our dishes in Thailand. This means it has to be tasty as well. Tasty and authentic are what we want our products to represent.
Second, we pride ourselves on offering Thai cooking kits that are innovative in their designs. We work extensively with our suppliers to ensure that our products are quick and simple to cook, as well as easy to store. We understand that, after a long day at work, do not want to spend 2-3 hours cooking dinner. Our products require 3 steps to cook, and are easily customizable. You can add any ingredients you want to the mix. As a bonus, they are also easy to store. Our products are conveniently divided into one portion per package, and are shelf-stable; no refrigeration is required.
Who founded TAAN THAI Brand?
TAAN THAI was founded by three Thais: Ping, Ploy, and Prin. Ping had studied and lived in both the United States and Europe for more than 10 years. During her time abroad, she loved cooking Thai food for her friends. However, she found it hard to find the right ingredients and sauces required for many dishes, especially Pad Kra Pao. The idea of TAAN THAI came to her mind years ago. Coming back to Bangkok, she recruited Ploy and Prin to start TAAN THAI.
Ploy is a self-proclaimed foodie. She loved trying different food from all nationalities. She is also an avid cook and baker who loves to cook food and bake for her friends in her free time. Some of TAAN THAI recipes came from her research and development over many years.
Prin is a photographer by profession. His dream is to share the value of Thai food and culture through his work. Joining TAAN THAI team, he is the main person behind all of the beautiful pictures, VDO, and all of our promotional materials.

Ways to Enjoy TAAN THAI Products
What goes well with TAAN THAI Khao Soi Noodles?
Khao Soi (ข้าวซอย) is typically a standalone noodle dish. Thai people like to have Khao Soi during lunch time. However, there is no hard rule on when one should enjoy the dish. One way to enhance the curry spice flavor is have a side dish of pickled green mustard, and, if you love spicy food, definitely put a little chili oil in the noodles. For the full experience, deep-fry some cooked noodles to a different texture for the Khao Soi dish.
TAAN THAI Khao Soi is available here. You can follow our instruction to enjoy authentic Khao Soi in less than 15 minutes. Ingredients and food allergen information are also available on the page.
What is Tom Kha and the best way to enjoy it?
Tom Kha (ต้มข่า), literally translated as “galangal soup,” is a non-spicy (by Thai standard, of course) coconut soup widely enjoyed by every Thai household. Tom Kha is different from other coconut-based curry that are well known and served in Thai restaurants around the world. They are not thick and creamy, but a light soup that tastes similar to Tom Yum but with coconut flavor. The herbs put in Tom Kha are also very similar to Tom Yum, except the presence of coconut milk. As the namesake suggests, the main ingredient of this soup is Thai galangal, or Kha. Apart from Kha, the strong herbal scent of Tom Kha come from Thai galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and lemongrass with a little chili kick. These blended together make Tom Kha a perfect palate cleanser before a heavy meal.
In Thai households, Tom Kha is one of the main dishes served during dinner time. However, it can be perfect in any occasion. TAAN THAI Tom Kha contains all of these herbs preserved in freeze-dried format to maintain the aroma and taste when cooked. Our Tom Kha Soup Mix is also vegetarian-friendly*.*
What is Pad Kra Pao and the best way to enjoy it?
Pad Kra Pao (ผัดกะเพรา) features in every street food corner of Thailand. Its name literally translates to Thai Holy Basil Stir-Fry. Kra Pao (Thai holy basil) is a common Thai herb used mainly for its strong, pungent aroma. It is also used in some spicy, clear soups (such as Gaeng Pa - Jungle Curry). Pad Kra Pao goes well with many types of proteins. The most common ones are pork, chicken, and beef. However, there are also more innovative Pad Kra Pao, such as seafood and crispy pork. Different types of proteins provide different tastes for Pad Kra Pao, making it more popular as a quick lunch since people can switch around the types of proteins to enjoy it for many days in a row. It is typically served with a runny fried egg to counterbalance the spiciness of the chili.
TAAN THAI Pad Kra Pao mix requires less than 10 minutes to prepare. It is perfect for a lunch box meal you can bring to work or enjoy at the end of the day at home. You can also add some vegetables, such as baby corn, or long beans, to add some more variety to the dish (although what types of vegetables go into Pad Kra Pao is hotly debated in Thailand, as a national joke).
How do I make Thai Tea with TAAN THAI?
TAAN THAI also offers the signature Thai tea that is served in every Thai restaurant around the world. Our Thai tea comes in drip bags, just like coffee. We designed the package so that you can make Thai tea from scratch with no hassle. Simply tear the drip bag open and place it on top of a cup, and then add pure hot water to the drip bag. And you will have it—a cup of freshly brewed Thai tea. Add half & half and sugar, as you like, or condensed milk.
We offer two different versions of Thai Tea, one with orange coloring and the other with a natural color. The tastes are the same, but the difference is the color. Enjoy it as you like, hot or cold!
